V27-166 : TREE PRESERVATION ORDER NO. 217 - GRANGE ROAD, BECCLES
The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control concerned permission granted in March 1998 for the construction of a pair of semi-detached houses at the above. A condition of the permission was the safeguarding of the protected trees during construction. During work to clear to site a major tree root had been exposed and sawn through. The Council's Landscape Advisor considered that the stability of this very tall tree could not now be guaranteed and that it should be felled. The removal of this tree would expose a misshapen, unattractive Cypress tree and a tall spruce with a short life expectancy, so that the removal of all three trees was unavoidable. The Director recommended approval to remove the trees, and prosecution action against the developer for wilful damage of the first tree.
RESOLVED
1. That consent be given for the removal of trees T7, T8 and T9 of Tree Preservation Order No. 217, subject to appropriate replacements.
2. That prosecution action be authorised against the developer of land at Grange Road, Beccles, for wilful damage likely to destroy a protected tree.
