Application for non-illuminated direction sign.

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised that there was a recently approved non-illuminated timber sign on the north gable wall of the above providing information and directions relating to several businesses located behind the street frontage. A co-ordinated format was used to display several shop names on one sign.

However, the proposed sign would be an additional element which was not integrated into the existing signage scheme, and would give undue prominence to one business and may lead to pressure from other businesses in Hungate to erect further signs. A traditional small hanging sign would be more appropriate in the area, and the applicant would be invited to submit an application for such a sign. However, the Director recommended refusal of the present application.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be refused to application A/W846/1.
