V27-156 : W5776/11 - SOUTHWOLD WATER TOWER, YORK ROAD, SOUTHWOLD

Application for installation of three wall mounted antennae and a ground floor level equipment cabinet.

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control outlined the above application to place three wall mounted antennae onto Southwold Water Tower in addition to the two already there. Objections had been received on the grounds of impact on the listed building and its setting, benefit to the town, visual impact and radiation.

The Director felt that the previously mounted antennae did not detract to any significance from the listed building and surrounding area, and a further three antennae would mean the surrounding area would benefit from a more competitive choice of mobile telephone operator. The equipment cabinet would be located within the water tower compound and would not create an obtrusive feature in the surrounding area. The Director recommended approval.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be granted to application W5776/11, subject to colour coding to match as closely as possible the water tower itself.
