V27-1461 : BARCLAYS BANK BRANCH CLOSURES

The report of the Chief Executive was considered as a matter of urgency, under the statutory provision accorded to the Chairman, in view of the urgent need for the Council to add its weight to the cause against the Barclays Bank closures.

The circumstances surrounding the closures and the local reaction against them had been well publicised and were not reproduced in this item. However, this was an issue which commended both cross party and community support.

RESOLVED

That Barclays Bank be advised that Waveney District Council deplores the closure of the Oulton Broad and Kirkley branches of their bank, without consultation, and that the Council note its displeasure when its own contract for banking services is reviewed.
