V27-1371 : W14595/3 AND /4 - OLD HALL FARM, RINGSFIELD
Application for conversion of barn to dwelling, and listed building consent for demolition of barns and conversion of barn to dwelling.
The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised that the barn which was the subject of this application was part of a complex of farm buildings to the west of the Old Hall. It was timber framed and surrounded by structures of various dates and materials. It was proposed to demolish the large asbestos-clad barn and other surrounding structures. The surviving timber frame would be repaired and reinforced, and the corrugated iron roof replaced in traditional reed thatch. External walls would be clad with dark stained weatherboarding, and doors and windows would be introduced into existing openings or between vertical timber studs. Internal living accommodation would leave about half the barn open to full ridge height.
Although acceptable in principle the number and size of windows appeared excessive and would result in a "domestic" appearance out of keeping with the character of a barn, but the applicants had agreed to negotiate on these. The Director recommended approval subject to conditions including removal of permitted development rights.
RESOLVED
That the Director of Planning and Building Control be given delegated authority to grant planning permission and listed building consent to applications W14595/3 and W14595/4 respectively, subject to the imposition of conditions including removal of permitted development rights.
(Councillor Cracknell declared and interest in the above item and left the room during the debate).
