Application for the construction of a new Community Resource Centre for Kirkley.

Before consideration of this item, the Chairman drew attention to the fact that this would be the last meeting of the Development Control Committee that Bob McGeady, Principal Solicitor, would attend before his move into private practice. As this particular item concerned the Kirkley Regeneration Project, Councillor Carter paid tribute to Mr. McGeady's input into that project. This application and the demolition of The Grand was seen by many as the watershed in the overall Kirkley SRB scheme.

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control detailed the design and the variety of proposed uses for the Community Resource Centre. The substantial benefits to the locality far outweighed any negative aspects, and the recommendation of the Director was for approval.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be granted to application W14444/5, subject to conditions relating to the materials to be used in construction
