V27-1319 : W10561/5 - BECK FARM, ST MARGARET SOUTH ELMHAM
Application for listed building consent for construction of a conservatory and new doorway. The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control described the above building as a grade two listed timber-framed building with a late medieval fifteenth century core. It was altered and extended in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and more recently had been extensively and sympathetically restored and refurbished. The current application was for the addition of a conservatory to the western gable end of the timber framed house. Whilst there was no objection to the principle of the extension, subject to appropriate design, there was a serious problem over the creation of a proposed new access doorway through the existing timber-framed wall. The submitted scheme would necessitate cutting a section out of the original sixteenth century oak sole plate, which was an important historic element of the building. It would be possible to re-design the conservatory with an access through the later rear extension, and such a proposal would be acceptable subject to design. Members concurred with this view, and were happy to delegate to the Director approval of a revised application.
RESOLVED
That the Director of Planning and Building Control be given delegated authority to grant planning permission and listed building consent to an amended application W10561/5, with access to the conservatory being through the later rear extension, and subject to an acceptable design.
