V27-1318 : W12876/4 - CENTENARY COTTAGE, GARDNER ROAD, SOUTHWOLD
Application for change of use of store to garage and provision of vehicular access - variation of Condition No. 4 of W12876/2.
The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised that planning approval for a dwelling on this site was approved in December 1997. The approval followed amendment to the plans as originally submitted by the deletion of one of two garages and the use of the remaining garage as a storage building only. This was because the Highway Authority considered that use of both garages in close proximity to the road junction would create dangers to road users.
The current recommendation of the County Surveyor reflected the fact that the builder's yard on the opposite side was now being replaced by dwellings, and that the building was set back from the junction. The Town Council recommended refusal for traffic reasons, and five letters of objection had been received. The Director recommended approval of the application subject to up-and-over or inward opening doors, ideally remote control, to safeguard the movement of pedestrians.
RESOLVED
That planning permission be granted to application W12876/4, subject to the type of garage door being to the satisfaction of the Director of Planning and Building Control.
