V27-1307 : W7448/3 - LAND ADJOINING 11a WISSETT ROAD, HALESWORTH

Application for construction of a bungalow.

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control outlined an application to construct a bungalow on land which was currently part of the side garden of 11a Wissett Road. Presently there was a double garage on the site with tall trees on the frontage. 11a Wissett Road was a Victorian terraced cottage and of distinctive character. Recent developments in the locality had been of a good design standard in keeping with the Suffolk Design Guide, but the bungalow proposed was simplistic in design and typical of many bungalows constructed in the 1960s and 70s.

Whilst supporting the principle of development, subject to the views of the County Surveyor, the Director recommended deferral for receipt of an improved standard of design to enhance the area.

RESOLVED

That consideration of application W7448/3 be deferred for negotiation of an improved standard of design.
