V27-1261 : THE ATTIC PROJECT
The Chairman welcomed John Taylor, John Lowe and Marilyn Slater from Suffolk County Council with special responsibility for the ATTIC Project, who gave a brief presentation to the Committee of the Project's work for difficult teenagers for whom conventional school was unsuitable. A members question and answer session followed.
The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services considered provision of new accommodation for the Project, as the existing facilities in Bridge Road, Lowestoft were limited and compromised Health and Safety standards.
The Council had six difficult-to-let bedsit bungalows at 83 to 93 Kirkley Run, Lowestoft, suffering active settlement. With repair cost prohibitive, eventual recommendation would be demolition and family housing re-development. 91 and 93 were vacant, and knocked through would provide acceptable accommodation for daytime use by the Project. Kirkley High School would be fully consulted on the relocation.
RESOLVED
That 91 and 93 Kirkley Run, Lowestoft, be leased to Suffolk County Council at a peppercorn rent as accommodation for the ATTIC project for an initial three year period, with an option to renew at the end of that time.
(Councillor Cherry declared an interest in the above item and left the room during the debate).
