V27-1232 : LIFEBOATMAN STATUE, LOWESTOFT SEAFRONT

The report of the Director of Community Services set out a request from the Lifeboatman's Social Club for consent to erect a five metre high statue of a Lifeboatman in Lowestoft. The Club also requested a £2,000 grant towards the £11,000 overall cost of the proposal.

RESOLVED

1. That permission be given in principle to the erection of a Lifeboatman sculpture on the Committee's premises, the exact location to be determined by a Working Party drawn from the Committee following public consultation, subject to satisfactory arrangements on maintenance and insurance costs being borne by the Club.

2. That Councillors Austin, Gouldby, Kelly and Rodgers be appointed to the Lifeboatman Statue Location Consideration Working Party, and attendance be authorised as an approved duty.

3. That a grant of £2,000 from the 1999/2000 Minor Projects Capital Programme be offered to the Lowestoft Lifeboatman's Social Club, subject to acceptance of the Working Party's decision on location, and other usual conditions.
