V27-1179 : REVIEW OF MEMBERS' ALLOWANCES

The report of the Director of Central Services provided a summary of a report from Dr Declan Hall on the review of the Council's Members' Allowances Scheme.

The Council's current scheme was based mainly on an attendance allowance for approved duties, and this would not be appropriate for the new political structure next year. The new scheme was based on a higher basic allowance payable to all Councillors supplemented by Special Responsibility Allowances for those Councillors undertaking specific named roles.

It was proposed to refer this report to the Members' Allowance Working Party for consideration and to make a recommendation for a new Scheme to Council on 24 February 2000.

This report would also be sent to members not serving on this Committee, and all members were welcome to make any comments to the Director of Central Services in writing before 16 February 2000. A full copy of Dr Hall's would be available in the Members' Room.

RESOLVED

That the report of the Director of Central Services be referred to the Members' Allowances Working Party and that Panel be authorised to make recommendations to Council on 24 February 2000 on a new Members' Allowances Scheme.
