Application for the conversion of barn and dairy into two dwellings.

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control outlined an application to turn an existing L-shaped construction into two dwellings.

The Director considered that from the size of the rooms, headroom and other alterations, the proposal would have an adverse impact on the buildings as a result of the desire to form two dwellings. Whilst the principle of conversion to residential use could be supported, the Director felt the cumulative impact of two dwellings would detract from the character of the original building.

This was contrary to policy V6 of the adopted Local Plan. He therefore recommended refusal as submitted. The Committee agreed that one dwelling would be more appropriate, subject to final details. The recommendation of the Parish Council was for approval.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be refused to application W13016/1, and that the Director of Planning and Building Control be given delegated authority to approve a single dwelling, subject to removal of permitted development rights.
