V27-1071 : A/W876 - 21-29 RAGLAN STREET, LOWESTOFT
Application for Advertisement Consent for an illuminated box sign.
The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control detailed an application from a commercial garage on Raglan Street, in close proximity to Katwijk Way. It was proposed to erect an internally illuminated box sign on posts behind the existing entrance wall. The Director considered that an internally illuminated box sign would be visually intrusive in this mainly residential area and only add to the proliferation of signs already on the site, and therefore recommended refusal. The applicant had been advised that an externally illuminated painted sign would be less intrusive, but was unwilling to change his design due to fears of vandalism.
Members agreed that an externally illuminated sign would be more appropriate, preferably in place of, rather than added to, the existing main sign for the business. RESOLVED
That planning permission be refused to application W1948/7 as submitted, the Director of Planning and Building Control given delegated authority to approve an externally illuminated sign, subject to further negotiations.
