V27-1058 : W1948/7 - 8 OLD LANE, LOWESTOFT
Application for single storey extensions and construction of a detached double garage. The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control outlined a proposal to erect a single storey extension at the front, the replacement of the flat roof of the existing garage and conversion to living accommodation, and replacement of the flat roof bay window and flat roof extension at the rear with pitched roofs. It was also proposed to erect a double garage on the existing turning area at the front of the property, abutting the neighbours fence. The Director felt there was no problem with the alterations to the property, but the position of the garage, forward of the house and within 0.7 metres of the boundary would make its position over-dominant. On balance, the Director therefore recommended refusal. Before discussion began, Councillor Devereux declared that he had been lobbied on the application. The Ward member relayed the applicants' fear of being frequently alone and wanting the garage nearer to the house for security. In refusing the application, members asked that further negotiations be held on a compromise in positioning the garage to the north of the dwelling.
RESOLVED
