V27-1045 : MARKETING OF WAVENEY SPORTS AND LEISURE CENTRE

The report of the Director of Waveney Contract Services set out the benefits and potential income from working with a marketing firm to sell memberships of Waveney Sports and Leisure Centre.

If the marketing proposed was to be taken up, a net profit in excess of £100,000 for each of the two years could be achieved, to be shared between the Council and Marketing For Clubs Ltd at a ratio of 60:40 in favour of the Council. This could enable improvements to the Centre to be made.

RESOLVED

1. That the proposal presented by Marketing For Clubs Ltd to sell memberships of Waveney Sports and Leisure Centre be taken up for a 10-12 week period during the spring of 2000, and that the success of the scheme be monitored.

2. That if the first campaign is successful it be continued for a period to be determined.

3. That if the early take up of the membership scheme is on target, Winners Fitness Suite be extended at a budget price of £27,000 and equipment purchased at a budget price of £25,000 through an operational lease.

4. That if targets are achieved, the deficit guarantee be reduced by £10,000 in 2000/2001 and by £35,000 in 2001/2002.
