V27-1010 : CAMPAIGN FOR LICENSING SCHEME FOR PRIVATE LANDLORDS
The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services detailed a request from Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council for the Council's support for the above campaign. The intention was for legislation to be made requiring landlords to be more accountable for the anti-social behaviour of some tenants.
As a good working relationship existed with the local Landlords' Association, members felt the only landlords who need fear such legislation were poor landlords. RESOLVED
That Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council's campaign for the introduction of a national licensing scheme for private sector landlords be supported, and that a letter be sent to Bob Blizzard MP and John Gummer MP accordingly.
