V26-994 : OUT OF HOURS SERVICE 1998 - ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DIVISION

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services reviewed the Out of Hours Service provided by the Environmental Services Division during Summer 1998.

The Director presented a series of slides to accompany his report, which showed that domestic noise complaints had risen to 214 from 1997's figures of 103, and entertainment noise only slightly up on 52 complaints compared to 41. Following the issue of a questionnaire to all complainants, it was considered that overall the experiment had been an overwhelming success.

Members were asked to consider the permanent introduction of the service. The cost for summer 1998 had been around £13k. Due to the variable nature of the call-outs, an accurate annual cost figure could not be ascertained.

RESOLVED

That an Out of Hours Service from May to September each year be established as part of the permanent duties of the Environmental Services section.
