V26-99 : SUMMER FAIR 1998
The report of the Director of Community Services set out the proposals submitted by John Thurston & Son, operators of the annual Summer Fair, for the 1998 season. A small funfair would be provided on the Royal Plain for the Air Festival on 30-31 July, subject to confirmation of that event. The fair would remain open during 1 August, enabling a direct move to the Royal Green the next evening. The fair would then open to the public on 4-13 August. An additional three days, limited to only ten rides or stalls, were proposed to cover the weekend event of the Horticultural Show.
It was proposed that last year's level of rent of £260 per day be increased by 10% to £286 during the ten days of the full fair, and £150 for the extra three days. RESOLVED
1. That up to ten funfair rides or stalls on Royal Plain be permitted during the two days of the proposed Lowestoft Seafront Air Show on 30-31 July 1998 with rent charged at 15% of turnover, and for an extra day on 1 August at a ground rent of £50. 2. That the Lowestoft Summer Fair be permitted to open on Royal Green from 4-13 August 1998 at a ground rent of £286 per day, and a small fair for a further three days at £150 per day.
