V26-898 : VILLAGE SHOP DEVELOPMENT SCHEME
The report of the Chief Executive provided an update on the Suffolk Village Shop Development Scheme, which the Council supported with a grant of up to £2,000 per annum for two years, which was now at its half-way point.
The Scheme provided consultancy and grants to sole village shops which were situated in rural communities with less than 3,000 population. In Suffolk approximately 100 shops were eligible for the Scheme, and of these 19 had been offered grants averaging £2,800. Consultancy expertise had been offered to the grant recipients, and also a further 20 shops. There were a total of 13 shops that were eligible for this Scheme within Waveney. Of these, three shops had received grants totalling £8,500, and a further two enquiries were being discussed with the applicants. An additional shop had received consultancy support but had decided that a grant would be inappropriate.
RESOLVED
1. That a further report on the Village Shop Development Scheme be submitted to this Sub-Committee at the end of the project.
2. That the Rural Development Commission and Suffolk County Council be thanked for their support for this scheme.
The meeting was concluded at 8.45 pm.
