Development Control - 21/10/98

V26-839 : W5884/6 AND /7 - LAND AT RAVENSMERE, BECCLES

Application for erection of five dwellings and application for conservation area consent for demolition of buildings.

The above application had been deferred at the August meeting of the Committee for a site visit. The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised that the land was currently unused, and the existing buildings which stood on it were derelict. The scheme had been substantially revised as a result of negotiations following the site inspection. The concern over the sharp bend near the entrance to the site had been alleviated by the Highway Authority's recommendation of raised blockwork paving on the bend to give the impression of the road narrowing whilst still giving access to larger vehicles. The applicants were happy to make that recommendation part of the scheme.

The scale of the buildings had been reduced, and the semi-derelict cottage would now be incorporated into the scheme. Parking would be limited to one space per unit. The Director now considered the scheme to be a sensitive design which made good use of this key site, and which should positively enhance the Conservation Area. He recommended approval.

RESOLVED

That planning permission and conservation area consent be granted to applications W5885/6 and W5885/7 respectively.
