Development Control - 16/09/98

V26-822 : W10159/4 - WHITE HOUSE FARM, SOMERLEYTON

Application for construction of agricultural storage building.

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised that the above would be a very large structure close to the road frontage, but it was required to meet new legislation for grain storage which meant that older barns were no longer suitable. The building was proposed to be in close proximity to existing farm buildings, but would be very prominent from the road. The building could not be located behind the existing buildings for operational reasons. The applicant was prepared to landscape the frontage to supplement existing trees which would help minimise the impact.

The above proposal was in the interest of the rural economy and consequently complete refusal would be difficult to justify. The Director therefore recommended approval subject to possible resiting, adequate screening and dark coloured cladding.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be granted to application W10159/4, subject to possible resiting, adequate screening and use of dark coloured cladding.
