V26-780 : MEMBERS SEMINARS
The report of the Director of Waveney Contract Services provided feedback on two particular issues which had arisen at the recently held members seminars.
The first issue concerned working for customers outside the Council, as members wished to identify how far these avenues could be pursued so that a firm policy could be agreed. At present the Department actively sought work from outside public bodies such as Housing Associations and other Councils to supplement and/or replace work received from Waveney District Council. In addition, enquiries were received from private individuals which was only responded to if the section in question had the spare capacity to deal with it. Advice and direction from central government was being awaited to clarify the situation. The Chief Executive advised that provided the level and scale of private work was not significant and was handled in the pragmatic manner as outlined above he could not foresee any difficulties. This was also an approach which was supported by the Council's external auditors. The Chief Executive urged against maximising private work at this stage. The second issue related to a customer survey carried out earlier in the year in respect of the Leisure Centre and Swimming Pools. A copy of the survey would be passed to the Leisure Client within the Community Services Department for inclusion in their annual report. However, the survey raised a number of interesting issues which would be acted upon where they were within the remit of Waveney Contract Services.
RESOLVED
1. That the current policy on Waveney Contract Services working for outside customers be agreed pending further guidance from central government.
2. That the customer survey of the Leisure Centre and Swimming Pools be received.
