V26-76 : UNDERGROUNDING OVERHEAD WIRES - SUFFOLK VILLAGES IN TOURISM AREAS

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control outlined a proposal for the Council to participate in a combined Objective 5b bid for villages in Suffolk to carry out environmental enhancement works, including the undergrounding overhead wires, to encourage rural tourism.

Funded jointly with Suffolk County Council, British Telecom, Eastern Electricity and 5b contributions, the estimated cost to the Council would be £10,000, half of which could be taken from the environmental improvement budget for 1998/99 and the remainder from the 1999/2000 capital programme.

RESOLVED

That the proposed Objective 5b bid including the Homersfield and Flixton Enhancement Schemes as described in the report of the Director of Planning and Building Control be supported, and a contribution of £10,000 be approved in principle, subject to a detailed report being brought to a future meeting of the Committee.
