V26-755 : MILLENNIUM GREEN FUND - BRITTEN ROAD, LOWESTOFT

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services detailed the Whitton Tenants' and Residents' Association's keenness to see the open space between Britten Road and Kirkley Run, Lowestoft improved as a community amenity.

The Association had applied for Millennium Green funding from the Millennium Commission, for funding from the National Lottery. To qualify, the area needed to be transferred to the Association. Initial ideas for the area included landscaping, possibly a wildlife area, appropriate lighting, seating and litter bins, to create an area for community events. The Association would be raising some funds by themselves, but were also asking for financial assistance from the Council.

RESOLVED

1. That the open space at Britten Road, Lowestoft be transferred as a gift to the Whitton Tenants' and Residents' Association, to be held in trust as a permanent resource for the community, subject to the award of a Millennium Green Grant.

2. That a sum of £8,000 over the next two years be committed from existing budgets to assist in the completion and maintenance of the Millennium Green project at Britten Road, Lowestoft, subject to the award of a Millennium Green Grant.

*Commitment of Forward Budget.
