V26-745 : TOURISM CAPITAL GRANT SCHEME

The report of the Director of Community Services concerned an invoice for £4,187 which had been received from the East of England Tourist Board. This was the annual match funding contribution for the Tourism Capital Grant Scheme, to which the Council had been a contributor for the last two years.

In 1996 the Economic Development Sub-Committee approved the Council's involvement on the understanding that Waveney businesses would receive an equitable share of the grants awarded, and that this would be reviewed before releasing the annual contribution.

The Annual Progress Report issued by the East of England Tourist Board showed that in 1997/98 56% of the approved grants were issued to businesses in the Waveney District. This amounted to £53,310, or 48% of the total value of grants awarded in East Suffolk 5b areas.

RESOLVED

That a contribution of £4,187 be made to the Tourism Capital Grant Scheme, to be funded from within existing budgets.
