V26-730 : MAKING UP OF UNADOPTED BACKWAYS IN KIRKLEY

The report of the Director of Community Services considered proposals to make up and adopt certain backways in the Kirkley area to improve their visual and amenity value. A preliminary assessment had indicated that costs would be in the region of £676,300.

The Chief Executive confirmed that the proposal could not attract Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) or Objective 5b funding. Whilst appreciating the SRB's Environment and Infrastructure Groups keenness to see this addressed, there were no outputs for SRB money.

Members pointed out that each of their wards had their own unadopted areas and that approval of such a scheme, even were funding available, would set an expensive precedent.

RESOLVED

1. That the existing Policy of not making-up unadopted streets and backways made at minute V19-250/10 be re-affirmed.

* Policy Decision

2. That the SRB Manager investigate the possibility of environmental improvements through Council/community projects.
