V26-729 : KIRKLEY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND VISITOR PROMOTION SCHEME

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control informed members that the submission of an Objective 5b funding bid for a range of environmental improvement works and marketing initiatives to make the Kirkley commercial area in London Road South more attractive to visitors and shoppers, had been successful.

Objective 5b funding meeting half the total project cost of £259,875 had been agreed at £129,937. The final details of the scheme would be influenced by the results of a consultant's study, as requested by the Traders Association, and would be reported at the next meeting.

Further preparation work was to be carried out on the design of the proposed 'Visitor Gateways' at Claremont and Waterloo Road. Designs showing circular lighting stands to create an arcade effect were shown at the meeting. A detailed report would be presented at the next meeting.

That the report on Objective 5b funding of the Kirkley Business Development and Visitor Promotion Scheme be received.
