V26-720 : ROOF RACKS ON HACKNEY CARRIAGES AND
PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLES
The report of the Chief Executive outlined a recent enquiry as to whether passenger luggage may be carried on the roof of a Private Hire Vehicle on airport runs.
While this practice seemed undesirable for reasons of unsightliness and obscuring roof signs, it had not been addressed in the Vehicle Conditions.
Members agreed that roof racks should not be permitted, but felt the condition should also apply to boot racks and other similar fittings.
RESOLVED
That a condition be introduced to stop luggage racks being fitted on the outside of Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Vehicles.
