V26-703 : THE PAUL EVANS 'PRIDE IN LOWESTOFT' AWARD 1998 - SCOTT HART
Before the commencement of proceedings, the Chairman presented the Paul Evans 'Pride in Lowestoft' Award for 1998, an award made on an annual basis to the individual or group who, in the opinion of the Council, had done most to reflect credit on Lowestoft. This year's recipient was Scott Hart, aged 16, who attended Kirkley High School and was studying for three 'A' levels including music. Scott had played with the London Symphony Orchestra, playing at the Barbican just 18 months after taking up the 'cello. On 2 October 1997 Scott had performed before Council, after composing a piece called 'Waveney'. Since then Scott had progressed to Grade VIII standard on the 'cello. He also played piano and trombone, and had a Tenor voice. Scott was now playing in the County Youth Orchestra and bands along with Kirkley High School's own orchestra, wind bands and jazz bands. He also sang in the school and Church choirs.
The Chairman took great delight in presenting the Silver Salver for the Paul Evans 'Pride in Lowestoft' Award and an individual medallion to a talent so young as Scott's. Scott went on to perform two pieces, Gavotte from Paul Voigt's Opus 20 and Arioso from Arnold Trowell's Opus 4, for members, who responded with rapturous applause.
