V26-686 : FISHERIES NETWORK REPRESENTATION
The report of the Chief Executive reminded members that at minute V25-767 it was agreed that in partnership with the fishing industry a local representative would be identified to participate in the National Fisheries Network.
In the interim officers have been attending meetings, however, an industry representative had now been identified. A former fisherman and local fishing industry expert had agreed to represent the region's interests on the Network. John Barnard was the Lowestoft MAFF/5b Fisheries Facilitator based at Lowestoft College.
It was felt that the Fisheries Facilitator was in the best position to offer feedback to the Council and other interested parties from the Network as he had both the technical knowledge to fully understand Fisheries industry issues and the necessary time to provide appropriate regional representation.
The Facilitator had requested that the Council made a contribution towards travel and accommodation expenses.
RECOMMENDED
1. That the Fisheries Facilitator at Lowestoft College be appointed as the region's representative on the National Fisheries Network, and that he be recommended to King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council in that role.
2. That a contribution be made towards the representative's travel expenses for attendance at Network Conferences, to be met from existing budgets.
