V26-685 : AGENDA 2000 LOBBY
The report of the Chief Executive advised that following discussions with colleagues in MAFF Commission Officials and regional Objective 5(b) Partnership members, Lowestoft's position on a case under the Fisheries Strand of the European Commission's (EC) Agenda 2000, Reform of the Structural Funds had been reconsidered.
At minute V26-297 members where advised that a case for Lowestoft's designation under the new Objective 2 would be best put under the Urban Strand backed by a fisheries dimension. In the light of informed opinion it was now proposed that the Council lobbied for Objective 2 designation under both Fisheries and Urban Strands. Presenting cases under both strands would not prejudice either case, although designation of Objective 2 status would be made under one strand only.
RESOLVED
That the progress of preparing a case and lobbying on Agenda 2000 both under a Fisheries and Urban Strand be endorsed, and that a future report be presented to the Sub-Committee on developments.
