V26-63 : PERMITTED SIGNS ON PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLES

The report of the Chief Executive outlined a request from a Lowestoft Operator for additional private hire company signs to be permitted to be displayed on eight seater vehicles, one to the front of the vehicle above the windscreen and one to the rear above the rear doors on the roof area.

These signs would enhance the identity of the vehicle and increase awareness to customers. However, this could encourage people to try to hail the vehicle as if it were a taxi. It was therefore agreed that, as further information was required, the Panel defer a decision on the matter until the next meeting. The members asked that an example of a private hire vehicle with the new sign in place be available at the next meeting.

RESOLVED

That consideration of the possible display of two additional signs on suitably constructed 7 and 8 seater private hire vehicles be deferred to the next meeting of the Panel.
