V26-61 : ASSAULTS ON TAXI AND PRIVATE HIRE DRIVERS
The report of the Chief Executive highlighted the Council's concern about recent assaults upon taxi drivers. Drivers were vulnerable to attack and it was felt that drivers should be permitted to fit an audible alarm to their vehicle to draw attention when in difficultly. RESOLVED
1. That taxi and private hire proprietors be permitted to fit driver actuated alarms to their vehicle to indicate when they are being assaulted or threatened.
2. That the Chief Executive be given authority to alter the driver conditions accordingly.
