V26-510 : SPORTS FACILITY PROVISION FOR HALESWORTH
The report of the Director of Community Services set out the current situation regarding the issue of under provision of sports facilities serving Halesworth. The report concluded that there was no foreseeable opportunity for acquiring a suitable site for playing field use given the issues ruling out the Fairview Farm site.
The report went on to consider the alternative proposal for the construction of a floodlit, all weather playing surface on the Halesworth Middle School site to be available for school and community use. It was proposed that the £60,000 in the Council's capital programme, aimed at improving sports provision in Halesworth, should be committed to the all weather playing surface project, subject to the Halesworth Playing Field Association completing the £340,000 funding package which would include a Sports Council Lottery application for 65% of the total cost.
RESOLVED
1. That the proposal to acquire the site at Fairview Farm, Halesworth for playing field purposes be discontinued and the authority to make a Compulsory Purchase Order to secure acquisition be rescinded.
2. That the capital sum of £60,000 to progress the provision of sports facilities in Halesworth be committed to the Halesworth Playing Field Association for the specific purpose of part funding the proposed all-weather playing surface at Halesworth Middle School.
3. That the sum be payable only when the complete funding package for the project is confirmed.
(Councillor Holzer declared an interest in the above item and left the room during the debate).
