V26-506 : PROPOSED LANDING STAGE - SOUTHWOLD HARBOUR
The report of the Chief Executive concerned an application from Mr K Howells to construct a landing stage at Southwold Harbour. As proposed, the stage would be in the form of an inverted "L" with the top limb, running parallel to the shore, being 40ft in length. An objector, however, maintained that a 40ft limb would encroach unacceptably into the water beyond her own site frontage, inhibiting her from building a new stage herself in the future and interfering with access from the water to her business premises, a cafe. She put forward compromise proposals which would result in a 24ft limb.
Mr Howells considered 24ft to be unsuitable as he wanted to moor a 37ft boat, but would accept a 30ft limb with no overhanging of any boat at the end of the stage nearest the objector's site, but with mooring via a line into the water.
The Chief Executive advised on the legal position with regard to the rights of the objector under her lease, and asked the Committee, as landowner, to decide if the limb should be 24ft or 30ft.
RESOLVED
That Mr K Howells be authorised to construct a landing stage at Southwold Harbour, with the limb running parallel to the shore being 30ft in length.
