V26-469 : FORMER SCHOOL BUILDING, GORLESTON ROAD, LOWESTOFT
The report of the Director of Central Service was considered as a matter of urgency, under the statutory provision accorded to the Chairman, as an opportunity had arisen to resolve the continual problems with the above building.
Members were reminded that the area surrounding the former school at Gorleston Road, Lowestoft, was developed several years ago by a housing association. The Council had maintained a part of the old school and had offered the building to a community organisation. However, the organisation had not been successful in obtaining funding and there was now real concern with the buildings safety and the chance of vandalism. The Director had been approached by a local builder offering to take down the building for the value of the materials, and in the circumstances this was seen as the best action without incurring any cost to the Council.
RESOLVED
That the offer by a local builder to take down the former school building at Gorleston Road, Lowestoft, for the value of the materials and at no cost to the Council be accepted. (Councillors Hinton and Hunter declared an interest in the above item and left the room during the debate)
