V26-448 : FAIRNESS AT WORK
The report of the Director of Central Services set out the content and likely effect of the Government's "Fairness At Work" White Paper. The main proposals covered three main elements of New Rights for Individuals, Collective Rights and Family Friendly Policies, and the Government had asked for comments on the proposals.
The Sub-Committee welcomed the Government's proposals, particularly with regard to parental leave and time off for family emergencies. However, it was felt that the provisions for "zero hours" contracts did not go far enough and a mandatory retainer payment should be introduced for such employees.
It was also considered that the Council still had need of waiver clauses for genuine situations where it had to rely on external funding for posts.
RESOLVED
That the report of the Director of Central Services concerning the Government's White Paper on "Fairness at Work" be received, and that members' comments be passed on to Central Government.
