V26-406 : W17041 - 30A ST JOHNS ROAD, LOWESTOFT
Application for conversion of former blacksmiths into residential unit. The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised that the above former blacksmiths and workshop had remained vacant for some years and was in a poor state of repair. The application was for conversion to a three bedroom dwelling which was not an ideal solution mainly due to overlooking of other properties, although this could be dealt with by having any windows overlooking the car park or use of obscure glazing or roof lights. The Director recommended refusal of the application with other possibilities being looked into, including conversion into flats which would require less curtilage space. Members were concerned that if some conversion to this property was not undertaken the unit would fall into further disrepair, and also felt that a residential unit would work on the site so long as the overlooking problem was eliminated. In view of the amount of alteration required to make the application acceptable to members, they were minded to defer the application for further negotiations with the applicant.
RESOLVED
That consideration of application W17041 be deferred for further negotiations with the applicant.
