V26-395 : "WATER CHARGING IN ENGLAND AND WALES - A NEW APPROACH"
The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services provided a summary of the Government's consultation paper on the above. Copies of responses on behalf of the Chief Environmental Health Officers of the Suffolk District Councils, and a letter to the Chief Executive from Ofwat were also considered.
The Director drew attention to paragraph iv of the summary of proposals which stated "All householders, whether owner occupiers or tenants, should be able to choose to have a meter if they wish to have one. Where householders request the installation of a meter, they should be able to revert to an unmeasured charge within a year if they wish and without further cost". With this he felt the opportunity to revise the Council's existing Policy should be discussed. Members had concerns over whether the year's trial would have effects on new tenants' moving into properties within the period, and this amongst other questions would remain unanswered until the findings were published.
RESOLVED
That this Council's existing Policy on Water Meters remain unchanged, until the findings of the Government Consultation Paper "Water Charging in England and Wales - A New Approach" are finalised.
