V26-387 : APPLICATION FOR AN OCCASIONAL PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT LICENCE
NEW MARKET, BECCLES
The report of the Chief Executive advised that Beccles Carnival Regatta Committee had made an application for an Occasional Public Entertainment Licence for a line dancing event. The Chief Executive had delegated authority to issue this Licence, however, the Carnival Committee had asked for a relaxation of the £100 fee as the event itself was free and put on for the people of Beccles. The Licence fee would normally be £200 but as the event was of a charitable nature they were being asked to pay a reduced fee of £100. Whilst the Council were sympathetic and wished to encourage this event, the licensing income was in deficit and fees were already subsidised by over 50%. The Chief Executive recommended that no concessions be made which may set a precedent for any future applications.
RESOLVED
That the licence fee for a line dancing event to be held on Friday 31 July 1998 as part of the Beccles Carnival Regatta be not waived, and that the applicants be charged £100, being the fee for "charitable organisations".
