V26-369 : PUBLIC SECTOR STOCK CONDITION SURVEY

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services detailed that in order to achieve a more targeted spend of the budget for Programmed Maintenance and of the Housing Capital Programme it was proposed to carry out a stock condition survey.

With the budget for Programmed Maintenance at £1.4m, and the Housing Capital Programme at £2.2m for 1998/99, to use these budgets to greatest effect more needed to be known about the condition of the stock. Properties adapted for disabled persons, and those suitable for future adaptations, and energy rating surveys could be identified or carried out.

The report identified that an extra 2.5 staff may be required to implement the Survey and proposed that existing staff be used, temporary staff filling and carrying out their normal duties. This gave a cost implication of £60k which the Director of Housing and Environmental Services proposed to find from savings in the property maintenance budget.

RESOLVED

That the idea of a Stock Condition Survey be approved in principle and a detailed report on the cost implications be brought to a future meeting of the Sub-Committee.
