V26-361 : BEACH BARBECUE - SOUTH BEACH , LOWESTOFT
The report of the Director of Community Services outlined an application to operate a commercial barbecue on Victoria beach between 11am and 3pm throughout July and August. Any permission would be conditional upon strict compliance with Health & Safety regulations and siting agreement.
Members were divided on this issue and had concerns regarding possible noise and smell pollution and the effects on the Council's Blue Flag designation. The Director felt with adequate litter control the latter should not be of significance. In exercising his casting vote in favour of the application, the Chairman stressed to members that the situation was one of a trial basis, which would be reviewed upon completion of the season.
RESOLVED
1. That permission be given to Mr A Pike of the Hotel Katherine to run a beach barbecue at south beach, Lowestoft during July and August 1998 for one season only as a trial, and that an appropriate site rent be negotiated.
2. That the permission be subject to the usual conditions relating to Public Liability Insurance and Health & Safety regulations.
3. That the applicant obtains a Street Trading Consent from the Housing and Environmental Services Department.
The Meeting was concluded at 8.25pm
