V26-332 : PLANNING APPLICATION REFERRED FOR DECISION
W796/25 - ERECTION OF A DOCTORS SURGERY, THE OLD GRAMMAR SCHOOL
PLAYING FIELD, ST JOHNS ROAD, BUNGAY
The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control considered the planning merits of the above application, in particular the policy implications of development on a playing field site.
The Chief Executive advised that Government policy concerning the sale or re-use of playing field land, including redundant land, was imminent. The Government Office for the Eastern Region had indicated that it would wish to be appraised of any approval in advance, as the Secretary of State would be likely to become involved. In these circumstances the Committee were advised to defer a decision until the matter could be considered in the light of the Government policy.
The Chief Executive also advised that a letter had been received from the doctors of The Beeches surgery arguing the merits of their case, and this would be placed before the Committee on consideration of the application.
RESOLVED
That consideration of application W796/25 for the erection of a doctors surgery on the Old Grammar School Playing Field, St Johns Road, Bungay, be deferred until Government policy on the use of playing fields is known.
(The Chairman declared an interest in the above item and left the room during the debate, and the Vice-Chairman took the Chair).
