V26-298 : COASTAL TOWNS - EUROPEAN FUNDING
The report of the Chief Executive advised that a letter had been received from North Norfolk District Council seeking the Council's involvement in a regional lobby to attempt to secure European Structural Funds for coastal resort towns. North Norfolk felt that the coastal towns by dependence upon tourism activity, peripherality and wider measures of social deprivation needed European assistance under the Agenda 2000 review, fearing that the four strands of Fishing, Urban, Industrial and Rural did not give coastal towns a fair chance of being designated.
The Sub-Committee considered a draft letter of response.
RECOMMENDED
That North Norfolk District Council be informed that this Council feels that lobbying effort should be concentrated on making the best case within the current Objective 2 criteria for coastal towns.
