V26-280 : MEMBERS' ALLOWANCES - NEW RATES

The report of the Director of Central Services proposed amendments to the Members' Allowances Scheme. Minute V24-609/15 resolved that the basic, special responsibility and attendance allowances for members be increased annually in line with the staff pay award. For 1998/99 the pay award was 3%.

The Sub-Committee considered that the payment of special responsibility allowances to the leaders of the minority parties should remain unchanged as there had been no significant change to the political composition of the Council.

The Council's scheme for the payment of these allowances needed to be amended and published. Inclusion of the scheme on the open part of the agenda met the requirement to publish the information within the Council's area.

RECOMMENDED

1. That the new rates of members' allowances be approved with effect from 1 May 1998.

2. That the Waveney District Council Members' Allowances Scheme (as amended on 26 May 1998) be approved in satisfaction of the publication requirements.
