V26-251 : HOMEFIELD PADDOCK, BECCLES TREE PRESERVATION ORDER (NO. 22) 1971
The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised that the owner of the above had in 1986 requested that the sycamore in the rear garden be pollarded as she was concerned about spreading roots and loss of light to her bungalow. The tree was one of many protected by the above Tree Preservation Order.
In 1994 a letter was received requesting that the sycamore be felled for the same reasons. The request was denied as no evidence of structural damage caused by spreading roots could be found. Nothing further was heard until a verbal report was received on 10 April 1998 that the entire crown of the tree had been removed, leaving a six foot stump. In the circumstances the report requested authority to prosecute the owner for authorising work with the knowledge that a Tree Preservation Order was in force.
RESOLVED
That the Chief Executive be authorised to instigate prosecution proceedings in respect of the unauthorised destruction of a sycamore tree within A2 of Tree Preservation Order (No. 22) 1971.
The meeting was concluded at 10.55pm.
