Application for conservation area consent for demolition of garage fronting market place.

These two applications were considered together as they referred to the same site.

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised that an application to construct ten retirement homes at the above site had been refused two months ago. The application now before members was for seven retirement dwellings and three general needs dwellings.

The Town Council had been informed that the application was no longer exclusively for the use of elderly people, however they still objected. An objection had also been received concerning access arrangements, and the Highway Authority also objected on this basis.

The Director felt that in street scene terms the narrow access was acceptable, and recommended approval subject to no substantial issue arising from the remaining period of public consultation.

RESOLVED

That the Director of Planning and Building Control be given delegated authority to grant planning permission and conservation area consent to applications W2923/9 and W2923/10 respectively, subject to there being no substantial issues arising from the remaining period of public consultation.
