V26-176 : TOBACCO AND HEALTH
The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services reviewed the Department of Health's Scientific Committee's Report on Tobacco and Health. The Committee's Report presented a review of existing knowledge on all facets of the "smoking problem". Conclusions were targeted primarily at Government Agencies, and were likely to become part of the strategies outlined in the Green Paper "Our Healthier Nation". In addition, the Alliance for Health in Suffolk's Standing Conference were presenting "Our Healthier Nation - What it Means for Suffolk" at Needham Market on Wednesday 17 June 1998, with speakers including Paul Boateng MP and Pat Troop, the Regional Public Health Director.
RESOLVED
1. That the report on the Tobacco and Health be received
2. That the Chairman and Councillor Spoor be appointed to attend the conference on "Our Healthier Nation" at Needham Market on 17 June 1998, and attendance be authorised as an approved duty.
