V26-167 : DIFFICULT TO LET PROPERTIES
The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services detailed the existing difficult to let properties appearing on the void monitoring information sheets, and considered existing proposals or possible options for each housing scheme. RESOLVED
1. That the possibility of refurbishment of Tan House, Beccles, to provide one bedroom flats, be investigated.
2. That the situation of little scope for cost effective conversion of Honeypot Meadows, Bungay, be noted.
3. That the possibility of a joint project with Suffolk County Council, in relation to St. Margarets Court, Reydon, be investigated.
4. That the options for Caxton Court, Lowestoft, be explored and a report brought back to a future meeting of the Committee.
5. That following the retirement and re-housing of the Concierge at Wolsey House and Constable House, Lowestoft, the use of contractors for cleaning and the replacement of smoke alarm batteries, be continued.
6. That a further report be brought to Committee, to include investigation of the following issues:
(a) Rent Free Weeks when allowing the tenant to remain in their home whilst basic redecoration is undertaken.
(b) Decoration Allowance, including written agreements and final inspections. (c) Cleaning and disinfection of properties prior to viewing.
(d) The provision of a list of suggested local removal firms.
(e) Prospects for assisting older owners in selling/letting their property, allowing them to move to accommodation for the elderly.
(f) The effect on staff resources of the introduction of accompanied viewing. (g) The introduction of selected sheltered housing or care homes where the keeping of standard pets (i.e. cats, dogs or caged birds) would be permitted.
